According to Scottish folklore, the Fae, or fairies as they are now known,
were clearly divided into two groups, the Seelie Court and the Unseelie
Court. Seelie translates to "holy" or "blessed". Broadly speaking, those who
belonged to the Seelie Court were good fairies and those who belonged to the
Unseelie Court were malicious and evil.
Seelie Court fairies are known to seek help from humans, to return human kindness with favours of their own, and to help the poor with gifts of corn and bread. The most common time of day to see them is twilight, when they would often be seen walking in long processions.
