The U937 Funbo rune stone

The Triquetra

The Triquetra is three sided symbol first used by the Celts. It appears on one of the 11th Century Funbo rune stones, and is thought to have had a religious meaning, but that meaning has long been forgotten.
In later years, the Triquetra was adopted by the Christian church to symbolise the Trinity; The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is also used extensively in Paganism and Wicca, often to symbolise the Triple Goddess, or the triplicity of mind, body, and soul. Sometimes it is used to represent just one of the Triple Goddesses; The Morrígan. The Triquetra is frequently seen as a decoration on the front cover of a Wiccan Book of Shadows.
The Triquetra appears throughout the television program Charmed, representing "the power of three"; the unity of the three sisters featured in the series.
