Apologies to International Customers

July 2008

Without warning our quotation system stopped working, and we didn't notice for a while. Our sincere apologies to all the customers we didn't reply to.

Summer Price Reductions

July 2008

We have reduced the price of around 1000 products on the site by 10-20%. Hurry, it's won't last!

Basket Problems

19th June 2008

On the night of the 19th June, our SSL server decided to collapse. We have temporarily bypassed the server with another. This will give an error message on completion of the checkout process, but don't be alarmed, because everything is in fact ok!

File Renaming

June 2008

We have been undertaking some site maintenance, which includes things like new JavaScript for the zooms, and renaming and tidying files. This means that there have been a significant number of code changes to the site recently. We have done our best to make sure there are no problems, but if you find anything wrong, please let us know. Also, you might like to try deleting your browser cache too! In particular, Firefox seems to love hanging on to the old JavaScript files!

Sub Menus

June 2008

We have been adding sub-menus to the site. Firstly, our apologies if this causes any display problems while we are updating the code. Don't worry, it doesn't affect the operation of the site. Secondly, you may notice, that you need to hit the refresh button a lot to get the new graphics to sort themselves out. Oh, by the way, the reason we have been adding the sub-menus is because we want to add masses of new products to the figurines section. There are nine new ranges: Witch Fairies; Woodland Fairies; Zodiac Fairies; Jasmine Fairies; Manga fairies; Witches; Fallen Angels; Egyptian; Pixies, which would lead to utter confusion without sub-menus! We felt that we really couldn't add any more to that section without adding the sub-menus to help people find their way around.

SSL Failure

March 2008

On Thursday 13th March, our SSL space inexplicably stopped working, so we have temporarily channelled all the checkouts through a different route. This will give an error message once a transaction has been completed, but don't worry, everything is actually just fine! The error is given as the software attempts to access the space that is not working, but by that time, the transaction has fully completed.

Shipping Weights

February 2008

We have started to significantly modify the shipping calculations carried out by the checkout. The new system will tell the customer which service will be used to ship the order, and the customer will be charged on weight rather than a fixed price. As well as providing more information for the customer, the average customer will pay less for shipping, although customers who place small value but heavy orders will notice an increased cost in shipping. The one big reason we have done this is that by charging customers a reasonable shipping charge, it will allow us to globally reduce our prices because our product prices don't need to include any margin for shipping. This means anyone placing a large order will save a significant amount.
Once we have the first phase implemented, then we are going to add international shipping as a standard feature of the checkout. This will be added one country at a time and will later be followed with the basket and checkout using Euros and US Dollars.

When we upload a new basket, we have to reset the basket server, which deletes the baskets that are currently open. We do apologise for the inconvenience that may cause.

Evil Spirits

January 2008

The Spellow House ordering server was completely replaced after a major system malfunction that occurred on 11th Jan. The replacement failed on the 13th, and the replacement for the replacement failed on the 15th! Finally, on the 17th January, after numerous repairs and replacements, it's all 100% and has has been declared well and truly purged of demons. Once again, we sincerely apologise to customers for the delays while we have been removing the gremlins from our system. As of the 21st of January we have started to clear a backlog of orders, but we still have more that will take several days to clear. After that we will finally be back to normal. We know, by the way, that the search engine has stopped working on the site, but at the moment we are all concentrating on getting the orders out the door and will be fixing the problem in a few days, after we have cleared the backlog.

Delays

January 2008

We would like to apologise to customers for the slow processing of orders in January 2008. Our suppliers have been processing orders unusually slowly which has severally slowed down our normally processing. Together with the ongoing work on one of our servers, things have been a lot slower than normal. Sorry! We are making every effort to speed things up and process all outstanding orders ASAP.

Nochex and Paypal Crossover

January 2008

As a part of our ongoing policy to replace Paypal with Nochex, we have raised the Nochex individual transaction limit from £500 to £600, this means that all orders up to £600 will now be processed by Nochex. Paypal will now only be used for orders above £600, which requires a Paypal account.

New Products

December 2007

Within a few days we will introduce "new!" symbols to highlight newly introduced products. Basically very simple, the symbol appears next to the product and gradually fades over the year and then, hopefully, vanishes of it's own accord once the product has been on the site for a year. If you hold your mouse over the symbol, it tells you when the product was added to the site.

Green Packing

December 2007

We have finished introducing the new all paper packaging. The idea behind the drive is that it is easier to recycle or compost because it contains no plastic, and saves the planet a little because all of it is either made from recycled paper or sourced from sustainable forests. Surprisingly, it was far easier and more successful than we anticipated. So much so, we can't understand why plastic was ever introduced in the first place.

Postal Strikes

October 2007

After Weds 3rd October, for the remainder of October,  all orders placed with Standard Shipping will be shipped via Parcelforce so they are not delayed by strike action taken by the Royal Mail. The Royal Mail is predicting chaos for October, so orders shipped on Economy Shipping may be delayed considerably.

Nochex and Paypal Crossover

October 2007

As a part of our ongoing policy to replace Paypal with Nochex, we have raised the Nochex individual transaction limit from £400 to £500, this means that all orders up to £500 will now be processed by Nochex. Paypal will now only be used for orders above £500, which requires a Paypal account.

Haunted Memories

September 2007

We are delighted to introduce a range of Haunted Memories Changing Portraits to Spellow House. Put simply, Haunted Memories are better and yet cheaper than the range we used to sell. Not only is the artwork better, but the lenticular design works better too. We have introduced the entire range of 10"x8" at a price that really is unbelievably great.

Green Is The New Black

September 2007

Concerned about the planet, Spellow House has decided to go green. Specifically, we intend to introduce packing materials that are completely paper based so can be recycled, or composted. This will be introduced in steps over the next few months as we run out of existing supplies of packing materials. Differences should start to creep in over the next month or so and by late this year we should be entirely green. Once we get there, we will include a "recycling information" sheet in every order.
